Out of the Box ServiceQwilt is on the hot on the heels of something big in high-data video delivery. Founders Alon Maor from Cisco and Dan Sahar from Crescendo Networks, plan to reduce the overall load of online for landline networks, mobile carriers, content providers, and consumers. Video currently represents about 40% of all online traffic, growing by 400% by the year 2015. Greater efficiencies are really needed in this sector to deal with a growing demand and a wider consumption base.

What does Qwilt mean for the consumer? Higher quality and faster loading videos.

“Qwilt’s products allow carriers to create a universal video delivery layer that works transparently, without interruption or changes to content provider or network infrastructures. It helps them contain the cost of growing online video traffic while keeping their options open for future business models leveraging the video delivery layer.”

Qwilt is an “infrastructure” company, B2B. They have been in stealth mode for 2 years now working mainly with network infrastructures and content providers. They plan to go for the mobile carriers as well. Qwilt claims advantages of 60-80% in efficiency by using their sytem. If Netflix can save money by using Qwilt, hopefully they can bring their prices back down, and bring back 800,000 lost customers.

Don’t expect to hear too much from the company for a little while. They are going to remain in semi-stealth mode and are testing their products in the US, Asia, and Europe. They will be increasing their engineering and sales team with their new funding and hope to hit the market in the first 6 months of 2012.
