Farewell to Nahum Sharfman

join black ribbonOn Tuesday (29/4) we received the sad news that Nahum Sharfman was killed with his wife Nava in a plane crash in Greece. The single engine CIRUS 22 crashed due to bad weather conditions and allegedly a pilot error.

Nahum,61, was a tremendously successful Israeli entrepreneur and the founder of Shopping.com and Comtouch. He held a BA, MA and Phd in Nuclear Physics.

In the two years I spent at Shopping.com in Israel (2002-2004) since the early days when it was still called Dealtime.Com) I remember Nahum as a quiet but very charismatic manager. Together with Amir Ashkenazi and  a great team, we accomplished something that every start up dreams of. Shopping.com went public in 2004 with a valuation of $414 million. In 2005, the company was sold to eBay for $634 million.

Many grieved at the loss of a great man, a well known figure in the Israeli tech industry and a generous philanthropist. I’d like to send my condolences and prayers to the Sharfman family. “Yehi Zichram baruch” – may their memory be blessed.
