In a classic MacWorld speaker move, Steve Jobs (aka “his jobness”) announced Apple’s latest invention this week in San Francisco.As you probably heard, the new beauty is called Macbook Air, the world’s thinnest laptop, weighing only 3 pounds and packed with cool features. The web showed its love with over 39,000 blog posts and 12,000 new articles in just a few days. The Macbook Air commercial was viewed over 500,000 times on YouTube alone, and probably double that number on Apple’s website.
What many people don’t know, is that behind the wonderful music in Apple’s commercial is a talented 29 year old Israeli singer. Her name is Yael Naim and she’s an upcoming artist in Israel, that just received an amazing little boost. Yael was born in Paris to Tunisian parents who immigrated to Israel when she was 4 years old. According to Yael’s official bio, she spent her childhood in Ramat Hasharon, a town not far from Tel Aviv, always surrounded by music. During Yael’s mandatory military service, she formed a band called “The Anti Collision” and toured Israel’s clubs.Signed by EMI in 2000, Yael Naim released her first record in 2001. It failed. After a few years of self doubt, she met David Donatien who convinced her to sing in Hebrew. “New Soul”, Yael Naim’s latest album, is also the name of the song in the Macbook Air ad. The single is *sold out* in Amazon, but I recommend buying the album, even if you don’t know Hebrew. Otherwise you’ll have to settle with the Yael Naim’s ringtone. I’m sure we’ll be whistling to Yael’s music when the MacBook Air commercial comes on. See it below.
