BizCamp Tel Aviv Wants to Bring the Best European Startups to Israel

The city of Tel Aviv, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is launching BizCamp Tel Aviv, a "Startup Bootcamp" for European entrepreneurs. It's a great prize, which includes free flights and accommodation, plus a dedicated programme of seminars, networking opportunities, and visits to the main R&D facilities of Google, eBay and Microsoft.

The Nesta report "The Venture Crowd" reveals that in 2011 alone, €1.5 billion was raised through crowdfunding for projects and businesses in need of funds. Amongst the different types of crowdfunding: Donation, Reward, Lending and Equity, the latter is on the rise as a fundraising mechanism for European startups.

Lots of returns are being made these days, but the latest CalPers report shows dissapointing returns by Israeli VC firms, with an IRR of 3.5%-3.8% to JVP and Carmel, the highest performing funds.

Hangouts on Air Live at LeWeb London 2012

LeWeb, probably the biggest tech conference in Europe, migrated from Paris to London for the first time this year. While lots of the 'action' happened on stage, I was asked to moderate a few "Hangouts on Air" backstage. In a nutshell, Hangouts on Air essentially enable you to broadcast a live hangout conversation with multiple participants on Google+, and then automatically transform the live stream into a YouTube video.
