Startups Start Local But Go Global. Is Europe Included?

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking at the Cities Summit Tel Aviv, in a session moderated by Mr Yossi Vardi. The topic was the “Innovative code” of cities. My talk focused on London and its ability to become a startup center in Europe. In a nutshell, London has all the components it needs to succeed.

Since the beginning of 2011, Israeli startups raised $1.57 Billion

The latest IVC Online report is out and it offers interesting color on the funding of Israeli startups. According to the report, 137 startups raised $522 million in Q3 of 2011, up 53% from the equivalent period in 2010, but down 8% from the $549 million raised in Q2 2011.

BillGuard – Fends Off VCs in $10M Series B Round

BillGuard has raised $10 Million in their Series B round of financing. Investors include bigtime funds like Khosla Ventures, Peter Thiel’s Founder’s Fund, Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors; previous investors Bessemer Venture Partners and IA Ventures also contributed to this round

Eyeview Raises $1 Million Round from Innovation Endeavors

In 2008, we covered the story of EyeView on VC Cafe. Three friends won the Harvard Business School business plan competition, carried on with the venture to raise money from respectable VCs in Israel and land clients like Yahoo and eBay. But since then, very little was heard about the company until now. Beet.tv reported that Innovation Endeavors, the VC fund led by Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt, has invested an additional $1 million in Eyeview, bringing the total investment in the company to $6 million to date from Gemini and Lightspeed ventures.

Stealthy Startup Any.do Raises $1 Million Seed Round for Voice Mobile Commands

Israeli startup Any.Do has announced this morning a $1 million round led by Genesis Partners, Blumberg Capital and Innovation Endeavors, Eric Schmidt’s investment fund, as well as private investors including Joe Londsdale (founder of Palantir).
