Calcalist reports that Pitango is trying to stop the acquisition of 3DV systems by Microsoft, which is currently being ‘cooked’ by Kleiner Perkins. Pitango claims that the bid put forth by Microsoft (approximately $35 million) is too low and that Kleiner is simply trying to cash out on its investment in 3DV, even for a loss.
3DV has been developing motion-sensing cameras and software since 1996, but only released its first products after 10 years of operations. With the rise of Nintendo Wii, the company planned to penetrate the market in 2008, but was devalued due to the world economic crisis. The funds and the companies declined to comment.
