June 2011 kicks off with the completion of HTIA, Israel's high tech association conference, where more than 90 (!) startups have exhibited. May has been a busy month for Israeli startups with great exposure in Techrunch disrupt in New York, funding rounds and debate about the future of the Israeli venture capital funds. For the third consecutive year, Israeli financial newspaper Calcalist put together a list of the top 50 startups in Israel (in Hebrew). Wix, the Israel-based flash website platform, has announced a D round of $40 million. The new investors in the round are Insight Venture Partners and DAG ventures who joined previous investors Benchmark Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners and Mangrove Capital Partners that also participated in the round.
Some call it "quick hits", "first read" or "readings". At VC Cafe we calls it Bitesize.

News just broke that veteran Israeli start up Gizmoz, creator of 3D head avatars has merged with Utah-based Daz 3D, an avatar creation service offering virtual 3D bodies. Existing investors Benchmark Capital, Highway 12 Ventures, and Columbia Capital, put in an additional $5.3 million into the new merged company.
Clarizen, an Israeli-based start up developing SaaS project management software for businesses, has attracted an $8 million round of investment. The round was led by DAG Ventures and joined by previous investors Benchmark Capital (Michael Eisenberg) and Carmel Ventures
