Last week LinkedIn reminded me that it's been 9 years since I started VC Cafe (Dec 2005). Several people sent their congratulations (thank you btw), and it reminded me it's been a while since I blogged regularly. I prefer springing into action rather than being sentimental, but I thought a little summary and a selection of highlights may inspire someone who is thinking about blogging to share their thoughts through this medium.
Forbes released the 2013 Midas List for Venture Capital today, proving that to be successful in VC, all you need is one big hit. Five of the top ten names on the list invested in Facebook, the largest tech IPO of 2012.
Back in May this year, the Kauffman Foundation published a very interesting paper titled “WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY… AND HE IS US” - Lessons from Twenty Years of the Kauffman Foundation’s Investments in Venture Capital Funds and The Triumph of Hope over Experience.
Last week I had the pleasure of speaking at the Cities Summit Tel Aviv, in a session moderated by Mr Yossi Vardi. The topic was the "Innovative code" of cities. My talk focused on London and its ability to become a startup center in Europe. In a nutshell, London has all the components it needs to succeed.

Deloitte Touche in Israel produces a Venture Capital and Private Equity survey every other quarter in an attempt to identify trends within the venture capital arena, give a summary of VC expectations of the Israeli VC community for the next six to twelve months. This is the survey 33rd installment in Israel and the responses were collected in June this year.
The summary of high tech capital raising in Q2 is out, and the IVC Research Center confirm what we've already knew - capital raising in Israel is showing seeds of recovery (see VC Cafe's post "Crisis Shmisis") with $343 million raised in 104 deals, representing an increase of 47% from the previous quarter. Life sciences continue to lead capital raising, attracting $109 million, and Israeli VC investments are a much smaller slice of the pie.
